Fox Sports’ Joe Buck reveals he used to drink tequila with Troy Aikman while calling matches

Joe Buck of Fox Sports is a man of great stories.

His last episode came this week during an episode of Colin Cowherd’s new podcast. Buck, 51, was asked about the chemistry he built with his longtime broadcast partner Troy Aikman. Cowherd likened their sound on the show to being similar to that of two college buddies having a little glass of bourbon.

Well, he wasn’t far.

“We had this bourbon glass in the booth,” Buck said. “While it’s not bourbon, it’s tequila, splash of Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.

Buck said his chemistry with Aikman was slower than that of John Smoltz, with whom he called baseball on the network. During baseball games, Buck said for a few years that he would catch a runner “the biggest beer the stadium sells” and sip it every now and then to relax.

“I had sat it there and sipped it every now and then to remind myself to relax and have fun. I’m just playing a game, ”Buck said. “And I brought that to football, but because Troy is a finer-tasting man, the beer kind of became tequila, Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.

“We haven’t done it for a long time now, but it was good for a stretch and I feel like it’s a good mental trigger to relax and remember that you’re not refueling. an F-16 in flight. You are hosting a sporting event and if you treat it like anything else, you are doing yourself a disservice.

No wonder Buck and Aikman have been Fox’s main tandem for years. They are like many of us! They like to have fun, relax and open one up during a game with the mates. This greatly improves the viewing experience for a lot of people on the couch and helps them feel comfortable during a big broadcast.
